Esmeralda is a vision for a walkable, compact village in northern Sonoma County rooted in the idea that shared spaces, thoughtful design, and daily proximity can spark connection, creativity, and exchange. Anchored by a community-oriented piazza, the plan includes up to 605 residences, flexible gathering and event spaces, and open spaces with trails, playgrounds, and sports fields. Drawing inspiration from the tradition of Chautauqua, New York, Esmeralda is conceived as a place where community life and intellectual curiosity are intentionally woven into the built environment.

We advise Esmeralda’s founder on translating this innovative vision into a cohesive physical plan, shaping site planning and building arrangements to encourage community, interaction, and belonging. Our work also includes defining likely resident and owner profiles, clarifying what future buyers will value and need, and guiding an architectural approach that feels authentic to the surrounding landscape.
